To advance transdisciplinary research, education, and policy advocacy in ecological economics across Africa; fostering equitable, socio-ecologically resilient development that respects biophysical planetary boundaries while honoring Africa's rich natural capital and indigenous knowledge systems.
Our Vision & Institutional Context
As a non-profit academic and research network serving as the regional chapter of the International Society for Ecological Economics (ISEE), ASEE was established to address the unique ecological and socio-economic imperatives of the African continent. Africa possesses unmatched biological diversity, critical carbon sinks, and vital natural resources, yet faces severe vulnerabilities due to climate change, land degradation, and inequitable global resource governance.
ASEE works to ensure that African developmental pathways are guided by rigorous ecological economics. We integrate ecological limits into national policy planning, promote pluralistic valuation of natural resources, and empower African institutions to transition toward circular bioeconomies and sustainable resource management.

3. Build Leadership Infrastructure
Deliver training, mentorship, and scientific infrastructure to equip African scholars, early-career researchers, and decision-makers to lead regional and international policy agendas.
